I believe that students are bright minded individuals who can achieve great things by having persistence and are able to accept mistakes and choose to learn from them. I believe that all children have the right to learn in a safe classroom. I believe this because we have the right to grow and learn with encouragement from our peers. I want to teach in a way that sparks students curiosity and allows for critical thinking, skill development through creative and collaborative problem solving. To spark students’ curiosity in a classroom is to be curious yourself. Have a positive attitude about new concepts and ideas this way students will see your excitement and would want to experience that feeling for themselves. Another way to inspire students to be curious is to have them ask questions and question the answers that they receive. Questions are a way of engaging students to keep their attention and reinforce their participation. They are also beneficial for reviewing and empathizing what is important about what they are learning. Growth mindset in a classroom is something that truly makes a difference in learning. I want to set achievable goals for my students and have them learn that through persistence and hard work they can learn to be resilient and overcoming failures can lead to successes. Teaching the ways of active listening is a positive aspect of creating an open-minded classroom environment. Ingrain in your students that it is respectful to give others undivided attention. Respect for our peers in general should be the goal for a classroom environment. Students should feel heard and supported because we all want to improve and we need to encourage growth in our students. My goal as a teacher is to encourage critical thinking, ability to solve problems and to communicate with peers for other perspectives for the purpose of having students be open to new ideas.
